About David
David Umem is a true humanitarian, lawyer and entrepreneur, who has dedicated his life to making a profound impact on the lives of vulnerable children and communities in Nigeria. He is the Founder and Executive Director of the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF), a prominent Child’s Rights NGO in Nigeria, and the visionary behind the Land of Hope Children Center, where countless young lives have been transformed.
David’s journey as a champion for neglected children started during his college years, where he first felt the call to make a difference. His passion and love for neglected children grew exponentially, and in 2014, he took a monumental step alongside his partner, Anja Ringgren Lovén to found ACAEDF and establish the Land of Hope Children Center.
Since its inception, ACAEDF has been on a mission to save and nurture the lives of vulnerable and street children in Akwa Ibom and beyond. David’s organization has been instrumental in rescuing numerous children branded as witches and abandoned, offering them a safe haven where they can heal and flourish.
Beyond his work with children, David extends his benevolence to youths and widows through various academic and economic empowerment programs. He sponsors and supports the training of 250 youths across Eket Senatorial Districts in disciplines such as Solar Electrification, Welding and Fabrication, ICT, Fashion, Cinematography, Scaffolding, and more. Beneficiaries receive start-up grants to kickstart their careers and achieve financial independence. Additionally, he provides tertiary academic scholarships to deserving students and distributes free JAMB forms yearly to students in Eket Local Government Area and other parts of Akwa Ibom state.
David’s commitment to community service is truly exemplary. His dedication to public welfare led him to donate an ambulance to the Nigerian Red Cross Society, enhancing emergency response capabilities in Eket and neighboring Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.
With a background in both accounting and law, David Umem possesses a unique combination of skills that makes him an expert in organizational and project management. He has amassed years of experience in the third sector, making him a formidable force in driving positive change.
David’s impact has not gone unnoticed, as he has received numerous awards from different institutions, recognizing his outstanding contributions to human and community development. His work is a testament to the power of compassion and the determination to create a brighter future for the most vulnerable among us.
In addition to his philanthropic endeavors, David is an entrepreneur, social advocate, and a professional member of the Chartered Council of Mediators in Nigeria. He holds a BSc. in Law from the prestigious University of Uyo.While his heart is dedicated to the well-being of others, David also has a passion for experimental cooking and enjoys preparing unique delicacies. Alongside his loving partner, Anja Ringgren Lovén, he shares a deep bond and unwavering commitment to their shared mission of changing lives for the better.
